BOAT FUELING OF NO.
2 FUEL (DIESEL)
The City of Lighthouse
Point has a code governing the fueling of boats with No.2 fuel via mobile bunkering.

the company has a third-party agreement with a cleanup company, and holds the
necessary permits and insurance to conduct this type of business. The permit
is renewed annually.
The following companies
are currently permitted to deliver No.2 fuel (diesel) docked within the City
limits. No gasoline is allowed.

UPGRADED INSURANCE
SERVICES OFFICE (ISO) RATING
FIRE PROTECTION-CLASS 3
On August 27, 2002, the
Insurance Services Office (ISO) conducted a survey of Lighthouse Point’s Fire
Protection Services. In November 22, 2002, ISO announced that the Public Protection
Classification for the City of Lighthouse Point was upgraded from Class 4 to
Class 3.
The Insurance Services
Office (ISO) surveys communities and provides a numerical rating from 1-10 based
on the fire protection services provided by a community. A ranking of 1 is the
highest and 10 the lowest. Most insurers use the Public Protection Classification
rating system for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial,
and industrial properties. This rating positively affects the fire insurance
premium rates in a community.
According to the ISO,
only 4.3% of communities nation-wide have a rating of Class 1, 2, or 3. Therefore,
Lighthouse Point is rated by ISO in the top 5% in the nation in providing fire
protection services.

Lighthouse Point Fire
Department’s 2008 Firefighter of the Year honor is being awarded to Paramedic Ralph Giro.
Ralph starts each work day with a positive attitude and an engaging sense of optimism. He is often the first person to pitch in to get the job done. Ralph’s virtues are often the type that go unappreciated and are rarely formerly recognized. Many times, only a person’s peers know the breadth of an employee’s true value to a unit and an organization. That’s often the case with Ralph. Ralph’s accomplishments are not limited to a single dramatic event or a special assignment; but encompass the more difficult task of providing the daily dedication that solidifies the foundation of any successful organization.
Ralph is constantly seeking ways to improve his level of professional competence and thereby raising his value to his department. He is currently pursuing a degree in nursing and recently has completed an 80 hour course in aerial apparatus and pump operations. In addition, this past year he has demonstrated a high level of medical proficiency on a number of serious medical rescue calls that have made the difference in significantly improving a patient’s condition and/or their chance of survival.
Ralph’s dedication and skills are acknowledged and appreciated by his peers, supervisors and department administrators. He has embraced the concepts of the fire department’s new mission statement and strives everyday to meets its lofty standards. “Ralph is a shinning example of our theory that personal improvement, whether it be through education or level of commitment, eventually equates to organizational or departmental improvement” said Fire Chief David Donzella. “Ralph’s dedication and devotion to duty sets a good standard for others to follow.”
