BOAT FUELING OF NO. 2 FUEL (DIESEL)
The City of Lighthouse Point has a code governing the fueling of boats with No.2 fuel via mobile bunkering. No gasoline is allowed.
The City Code, Sec. 14-5 Storage of LP Gas and No. 2 Fuel Oil, stipulates that only companies permitted by the Lighthouse Point Fire Rescue Department are allowed to conduct mobile bunkering services in the City. Before a permit to fuel is issued by the Fire Rescue Department a fire Inspector will inspect the vehicle(s), verify that the company has a third-party agreement with a cleanup company, and holds the necessary permits and insurance to conduct this type of business. UPGRADED INSURANCE SERVICES OFFICE (ISO) RATING FIRE PROTECTION-CLASS 3
On September 1, 2017, the Lighthouse Point Fire Department will be upgraded from an ISO Class 3 department to a Class 2 department, thereby improving our fire insurance rating.
The Insurance Services Office (ISO) surveys communities and provides a numerical rating from 1-10 based on the fire protection services provided by a community. A ranking of 1 is the highest and 10 the lowest. Most insurers use the Public Protection Classification rating system for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. This rating positively affects the fire insurance premium rates in a community.
According to the ISO, only 4.3% of communities nation-wide have a rating of Class 1, 2, or 3. Therefore, Lighthouse Point is rated by ISO in the top 3% in the nation in providing fire protection services. This is a great achievement for our City and the fire department!
