The FDOT’s US-1 Bike Lane Widening project has begun. The project will widen the existing bike lanes from 3 feet to 5 feet from Sample Road north to the Broward County / Palm Beach County line. It also includes new pavement, pavement markings, various sidewalk repairs and ADA sidewalk ramp improvements. The project shrinks the medians in US-1 by 2 feet on both sides to gain the necessary space to widen the bike lanes.
One inside lane in each direction will be closed intermittently on Federal Highway from Sample Road to the Broward / Palm Beach County Line to reduce the width of the median for roadway widening. This closure may be in place for approximately three months.
Construction activities associated with the widening will take place Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 5 pm.
The contractor continues to work on Federal Highway from NE 54th Street to NE 13th Court and from NE 2nd Court to the Palm Beach County Line. Several median crossovers along Federal Highway will be temporarily closed during construction. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained using the closest median opening or intersection. In addition, starting Wednesday, September 23rd, the Contractor will be working on sidewalk reconstruction from Sample Road to NE 54th Street. This work is anticipated to take approximately one month. One lane will be closed in each direction from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
UPDATE: Drainage work is being completed in LHP medians. Outside sidewalk work has commenced which will result in daily lane closures for worker safety. Please observe the 40 MPH posted speed limit and drive safely.
